As I'm thinking about a "brief" biography of the store, it occurs to me that it will really be brief. In the grand scheme of things, 20 some years in the jewelry business is a very short time compared to the generations that one thinks of when referring to others in the jewelry industry. Peter, of Peter & Co. Jewelers, started his store selling gold chain back in 1987. With no formal training, some borrowed capital, and a desire to be in business, Peter captured the essence of being an American. He immigrated to the United States in 1961 from his home country, at that time Yugoslavia, and spoke no English. With a little creativity, ingenuity, plenty of hard work and limitless enthusiasm, his dream turned into reality. In 1992 the business doubled in size and relocated from Bay Village to a strip shopping center in Avon Lake. What exciting times! That is when I joined him in the business, and not long after, one of our four daughters, Tamara, came on board. In 1998, the store doubled in size again by expanding and incorporating the empty space next door. Sadly, in 2000, Peter passed away, but the business did not miss a beat. Tamara and I, joined by a second daughter, Kim, in 2003, continued to grow the business, which now employs a staff of 10 full and part-time workers and can boast having a GIA Graduate Gemologist, a JA Certified Master Jeweler, and a Lititz- trained horologist on staff. Since November of 2010, Peter & Co. Jewelers has a new home in a free-standing building, and is extremely proud to be considered in America's Coolest Stores contest! With a wonderfully dedicated team and great support from our customer base, we look forward to the next milestone in the ongoing story of Peter & Co. Jewelers. Specialties: Certified diamonds, fine gemstones in 14 and 18-karat gold, and platinum. In-house expert jewelry repair, custom designs created on computer aided software.
