PetFix Northeast Ohio is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to ending pet overpopulation in Northeast Ohio by promoting the importance of spay/neuter and making spay/neuter resources affordable and accessible to all pet owners, feral cat caregivers, shelters, rescues, and animal control agencies placing animals for adoption. The PetFix medical team has altered over 37,500 dogs and cats, preventing hundreds of thousands of animals from ending up in shelters or living as strays. The PetFix initiative was designed after two years of research into programs across the country and with the help of an advisory board consisting of representatives from humane societies, dog wardens, and rescue groups throughout a nine county area. Two regional conferences were held in May 2004 and March 2005. Both were designed to bring together representatives from the animal welfare and veterinary communities to discuss pet overpopulation in the region and help develop the PetFix plan. The result of those meetings was a decision to begin with a mobile clinic. PetFix took possession of a 33' mobile spay/neuter clinic in June 2005 and began routine operation in January 2006. In July 2013, PetFix opened a low–cost, high quality, stationary spay/neuter clinic in Euclid (modeled after Humane Alliance) to better serve Cleveland–area residents.
