The history of the French manufacturer Peugeot begins in 1891 as the oldest still existing car brand in the world. Today, known primarily for cars in the compact, mid-size and van classes, the product portfolio of the brand with the lion logo is much larger and also includes the production of bicycles, do-it-yourself machines, grinders for the construction industry and spice mills. Peugeot has now only divested itself of the motorcycle division. The Peugeot family that gave the company its name first appeared at the end of the 18th century, in 1776, with various enterprises, including an oil mill, tannery and dye works. The Peugeot brand was finally founded in 1810 by the brothers Jean-Frédéric and Jean-Pierre Peugeot. Due to the economic developments of the time, they set up an iron foundry and produced rolled iron, saw blades, watch springs and corset bars made of steel strips. The symbolism of the brand's logo also refers to these beginnings. The lion stands for the robustness and elasticity as well as the fast cutting of the saw blades. In addition, the throat of the lion is supposed to symbolize the saw teeth. As the central car brand of the Goup PSA - Peugeot Société Anonymes - Peugeot is today part of the second largest car manufacturer in Europe in terms of sales figures. More than 50 million Peugeot cars have been sold since the start of car production. The 50 millionth car was a Peugeot 308 SW.
