The Department of Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy consists of eight faculty members who conduct research and quality initiatives to improve patient outcomes, practice, and policy related to medication, pharmacist services, and health care systems.In addition to providing instruction for portions of the college's professional Pharm.D. degree program, department faculty members offer graduate education leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy. The Ph.D. program prepares students for research and leadership positions in pharmaceutical industry, clinical research organizations, academia, and state and federal agencies.In collaboration with seven fellow Texas Medical Center institutions, PHOP faculty members also provide instruction for the academic component of the concurrent M.S./PGY1-PGY2 Residency in Pharmacy Leadership & Administration program.The department also houses the Institute for Community Health, an interdisciplinary research institute of investigators engaged in projects the Institute of Medicine's focus on community health initiatives through the collaboration of scientists and health professionals, agencies and institutions of higher learning.
