Phoenix Haga is a small drug free therapeutic community in south eastern Norway, approximately 68 kilometres' from Oslo.The organisation has an independent board of directors, and is a registered not for profit foundation.Phoenix Haga is approved as a multidisciplinary specialist health treatment centre, within national substance abuse treatment regulations.Admissions are accepted within Paragraph 12 of the criminal justice system.The Regional Health Area Authority for the South Eastern Region, contract for 26 treatment places in the primary residential setting. Other treatment places are purchased by various other Regional Health Authorities, throughout the country.Ideology/ model:Phoenix House Haga is a 3rd generation therapeutic community for addictions, (Broekaert et al). The model and subsequent detail regarding the ideology can be found in the literature and is most frequently referred to as "community as method" (De Leon). We think it is realistic to describe Phoenix House Haga, as a modified therapeutic community adapted from TC generic roots to the Norwegian culture, traditions and individual need.Nevertheless, our historical roots can be found both in the U.S.A. and through European therapeutic community pioneers.
