PhoneShaala by eArth Samvarta Foundation (eSF) & KDC is an affordable solution that is bridging inequalities in access to education especially for children from low income families in India. PhoneShaala is a TOLL FREE solution that children from across the country can call to listen to audio recorded lessons based on their class, the subject they want to learn and language of their choice. This solution is especially helpful for children from low-income families who are unable to attend schools regularly due to other compulsions. It is also helpful for the significant number of people in India who are unable to afford smart phones to access learning online using internet. PhoneShaala gives them a TOLL Free number where learning can be accessed free of cost. PhoneShaala was born in the COVID 19 lockdown in India where the inequalities in access to education became worst as schools were shut. While children from well-to-do families were able to continue learning through video lessons online or on youtube or through classes on video conferences, children from low-income families had no such learning support as their parents do not own smart phones but basic feature phones. The special features of lessons on PhoneShaala are that lessons are positive and encouraging which also help children cope with any mental stress. Additionally the lessons incorporate values of environment conservation and sustainability. Born in the COVID Crisis, PhoneShaala aims to be a silver lining to reduce the inequality in access to education in India.
