Arts and Crafts - London, N/A, gb
The gallery specialises in exceptional Modern and Contemporary British and International works of art. We also represent a select stable of contemporary artists and artist's estates, represented in private and public collections in the UK and internationally.Providing expert guidance based on over 30 years of experience, the gallery can advise individuals, corporations and institutions on appraisals, acquisitions and dispersals, in order to build unique and exceptional collections. Piano Nobile was established in 1985 by Dr Robert Travers, following doctoral studies in London and Paris. Today run by Robert Travers and his son, Matthew Travers, the gallery is based in a serene square in the heart of Holland Park with an additional exhibition space in Kings Cross. The Italian name of the gallery, Piano Nobile, reflects the roots of the original family gallery based in Rome during the inter-war period, which specialised in Italian Old and Modern Masters. The piano nobile was the first or second floor of an Italian palazzo, where the best art would be displayed. With a discerning curatorial vision, the gallery has established a reputation for authoritative exhibitions and publications under the gallery's imprint, Piano Nobile Publications. The gallery holds around six carefully curated exhibitions annually across both gallery spaces in Holland Park and Kings Cross, and participates in many art fairs throughout the year. Piano Nobile is committed to numerous public institutions and museums, frequently supporting exhibitions, events and conferences. The gallery manages the Ruth Borchard Collection, the UK's only public collection of self-portraits, and Piano Nobile Kings Place gallery hosts the biennial Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize.
