Food Production - San Martino Al Tagliamento, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
To reveal the Pittaro Angelo estate's identity means to tell the story of a dynasty lead by the creativeness of the viticulturist. Romano, Angelo's father, a self taught man, started growing grapes and producing wine between the two world wars. Then Angelo, a passionate and talented man, continued and consolidated his father's work. He established and ran for thirty years the "Cantina San Martino" which is now lead by his sons "the Pitars", four brothers who maintain the family's wine making tradition. The estate's property extends for 140 hectares of which 100 are devoted to vineyards in the area called "Grave Del Friuli" in north eastern Italy. In this specific geographical area wine growing is favoured by a particular microclimate and the grapes, if tenaciously cared for with competence and love, are suitable to the production of excellent wines.
