Established in 2010 after several months of advance design research, pixSmix is web-based image interaction tool that allows people to create image artifacts. These collages are expressions of emotional states and personal perceptions of the individual images. The interaction on pixSmix is intentionally ambiguous, constrained to compel people to make meaningful choices. Data from these interactions is tracked and stored, as pixSmix believes that, over time, this information can provide interesting feedback to collage creators and business entities providing pools of images. pixSmix is a platform for multiple application development. In addition to the website, development is ongoing to create a version of the interaction tailored to the iPad, Apple's new touch interaction device, and tools centered around collage-creation at large events.
