Performing Arts - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States
In Playback theatre, an audience member tells a true-life story and then watches it brought to life by Playback players who re-enact the story on the spot. Playback Milwaukee creates a container into which the teller of a story can pour a true-life experience. The container holds the story so that the teller can see and re-experience that story, savor it, and draw nourishment from it. Playback creates a space to listen deeply and authentically to each other. A teller of a story in Playback experiences being heard, seen, valued, recognized, validated.Playback Milwaukee produces performances in collaboration with community organizations and schools to create spaces to remember, share, and celebrate our personal and collective histories. Playback Milwaukee also conducts residencies and ongoing group process facilitation for organizations, institutions, and schools. We also host monthly "Playshops" open to the public to come learn Playback!Playback Milwaukee's mission is to promote freeing minds, bodies, and hearts, and to promote the weaving together of community and solidarity, through telling and playing our stories. Now in our fifth season (2014-2015), we have had over 20 public performances; 20 workshops at schools, colleges and institutions; 11 residencies in public schools, and numerous monthly playshops open to the public. We are committed to serving and strengthening the urban communities of Milwaukee in which we live and work.
