Education Director & Teacherâthe original school of improvisation
Established in 1970, Players Workshop is the oldest improvisation school in Chicago. Our Core Curriculum — which is based on the teachings of Viola Spolin and further developed by our founder Jo Forsberg — has not changed in 50 years. Each session is designed to help adult learners to seek personal growth in an active, fun and safe environment. Students are encouraged to apply what they learn however they wish — to work, life or play. Past graduates of the Players Workshop include familiar names from TV, film and theatre: Bill and Brian-Doyle Murray, Amy Sedaris, David Pasquesi, George Wendt, Harold Ramis, Shelley Long, Bob Odenkirk, and David Mamet. The school has shared the art form of improvisation with tens of thousands of people — teachers, bus drivers, physical therapists, sales people, grandparents, parents and college students.
