Education Management - Murrieta, California, United States
The PLUS Program is a proactive youth development approach, which empowers young people to lead, educate, influence and support the peers on their campus and in their community. PLUS is one of the few approaches in education, which utilizes the natural channels of peer influence to address the critical issues that impact the conditions for learning of all students. At the core of the program is a simple mission to address the exclusion of youth from a group identity and the effects this exclusion has on positive youth development. Too often youth development strategies and school based programs narrow in on the issue of peer pressure, while they neglect the physical need young people have for a sense of belonging.PLUS Program activities build strong connections for students, simultaneously it has been designed to gather data, which is inputted into a centralized online database. The database enables schools to trend student behavior on campus that affects the conditions for learning and a safe school climate. The PLUS Program becomes a systematic infrastructure for schools to know which critical issues are impacting their school climate and need to be targeted with their calendar of activities. It serves as a diagnostic check up that tells a school site where they might need some "medicine" to make their "student body" healthy. It simply gives schools direction throughout the year, while simultaneously building connections for all students to a positive peer group.
