Retail - San Francisco, California, United States
About The Company Then Founded in 1871, by the Podesta and Baldocchi families who came here from Italy looking (along with many others) for an opportunity to provide a better life for their loved ones. Today, Podesta Baldocchi remains one of the oldest businesses in San Francisco and one of the oldest, continuously operating floral design businesses in the United States. There have been many changes over the past century-the company no longer uses a fleet of wood-panel vans and "Podesta Baldocchi" Packards known as "floralcars" to make deliveries, but the company is still known for its place in San Francisco and American cultural history. In fact, Podesta Baldocchi featured prominently in the 1958 release of Alfred Hitchcock's movie thriller "Vertigo." Now In November 2001, San Francisco native Marc Rovetti took ownership of Podesta Baldocchi. Marc's father moved here from Italy in the 1950s and worked at Podesta Baldocchi before he went on to own his own floral business. Stephanie and Jason, floral artisans who own another famous San Francisco Financial District floral business, purchased the thriving Podesta Baldocchi from Marc in the late summer of 2009. Today, they are delighted to have the opportunity to offer this gem to the grandeur and elegance of old-world San Francisco while at the same time providing customers with excellent service and contemporary and innovative designs for which it has long been known.
