The Polar Bear Habitat's mission is to aid in the conservation of polar bears through education and research.Conservation: In order to protect polar bears we need to protect their space. That is why we believe in promoting environmental stewardship through educational programs, advocating against climate change, and creating strategies to deter, relocate, or rescue orphaned polar bears. Education: Inspiring students to learn about the conservation and care of polar bears through our education programs is one of the best ways to reach the next generation. Whether we skype in, present to students at our facility, or come to your school, there is program for everyone.Research: We believe polar bears should be in the wild. However, for those that are unable to survive there, the Polar Bear Habitat can be called home. This gives scientists and researchers here at the habitat and abroad the ability to study and research these amazing creatures. The more we can learn about polar bears the better we can protect them.We are currently home to five polar bears: Henry, Inukshuk, Ganuk, Taiga, and Eddie, who live in a natural environment that spans over 20 acres across five enclosures, one of which comprises of a four-acre lake. The Polar Bear Habitat is the largest facility dedicated to polar bears. Situated in Cochrane Ontario, we are 250 km south of the subarctic climate of the James Bay. We welcome visitors, researchers, educational facilities, and organizations from around the world year round to experience our facilities and programming that enrich the lives of polar bears.
