The Program in Leadership and Pedagogy was designed to provide support for the training, mentoring, and growth of Undergraduate Discussion Leaders (UDLs) as they progress through increasingly-independent roles in a Peer-Assisted Learning model. UDLs progress through a series of 2-3 courses that allow them to become successful peer leaders, as they eventually will lead discussion sections for Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) and become mentors for the PSY 111 writing project. Structure of the Program in Leadership and Pedagogy: 1. Psychological Perspectives on Leadership and Pedagogy (PSY 211) 2. Practicum in Leadership and Pedagogy (PSY 212) 3. Advancing Leadership and Pedagogy (PSY 313) or independent studies, where UDLs elect to continue leading one or more discussion sections Goals for Undergraduate Discussion Leaders: · Learning to be classroom leaders and facilitators. · Developing leadership skills that encourage critical thinking · Learning to mentor the writing of others and provide constructive feedback · Reflecting on and conducting assessments of different learning environments.
