Project Contrast is a non-profit organization created to help share the stories of, and give voices to LGBTQ+ youth across the country. We aim to raise awareness and work to reduce the number of suicides among LGBTQ+ youth in the U.S. through photojournalism and storytelling. Our goal is to create a platform for LGBTQ+ youth by empowering them to become advocates for each other and within their own communities. Traveling to under-represented communities in all 50 states. Documenting LGBTQ+ youth who live in small, rural, conservative or religious communities. Project Contrast was originally created by Maxwell Poth in his home state of Utah where suicide continues to be the leading cause of death for youth ages 10 to 17. Most of these suicides are taking place within the LGBTQ+ community. After two consecutive series in Utah, Maxwell turned his photo project into a national traveling non-profit 501(c)3. Working with local LGBTQ+ resource centers, clubs, groups, local advocates and more. Meeting and documenting queer youth, and allowing those young people and their families to share their stories. With this work, Project Contrast has not only helped shape and strengthen communities, but we have given struggling LGBTQ+ youth hope for the future. Maxwell has already documented over 200 LGBTQ+ youth across 21 sates in our country. We are always reaching out to more communities and creating a larger network - a larger family - for our youth and for the future of our community.
