Project GRAD Long Island is a nonprofit educational reform model currently partnering with the Westbury Union Free School District to help more underrepresented students graduate from high school and succeed in college. With the support of organizations and individuals throughout the community, GRAD creates a rigorous college-bound culture by raising the bar for achievement in literacy and math; offering summer institutes on local college campuses; connecting students to successful mentors; and guaranteeing college scholarships of up to $6,000 for students who register with the program and meet its goals, beginning with the Westbury class of 2013. GRAD Long Island is one of 13 sites in the GRAD USA network, currently serving 134,000 students nationwide and addressing education reform from pre-K through college. GRAD scholars have attended more than 100 institutions of higher education, including the most selective schools in the nation. In 2003, Project GRAD Long Island became the 10th site to open.
