The purpose of this project is to raise funds to buy school supplies for overlooked kids in the poorest cities in Cuba. We believe that basic needs like pencils, pens, paper, backpacks and notebooks will help these kids engage more effectively in lessons, will restore confidence in their classrooms and will gain knowledge they can bring back to the community to improve overall welfare. While education in Cuba remains, one the most popular systems in the world, the challenge for Cuba is to supply children at all levels and in every part of the country, with the educational tools they need to succeed. These needs are very simple, pencils, pens, paper, backpacks, notebooks, etc.Our goal is very simple, to raise funds to buy school supplies that can be put to use by the kids in Cuba (Santiago de Cuba). I would suggest that there are millions of households with a pen/pencil or a backpack or a notebooks sitting in a closet collecting dust. We want to get those items and give to someone who will bring it to life. We are focusing on children between the ages of 5 to 15 years, as we see this as a crucial time in forming a child's passion and creative development. In our pursuit of supporting children, we want to give them every opportunity and ensure they are equipped for their starting school year. We are inspired by a Cuban magazine published in the 1980's called, "La Edad de Oro." This magazine was later compiled into a book and was geared towards youth and told stories showing examples of what it means to thrive in a community. Along with stories, there were poems and essays that exemplified humanism, empathy, and love for eachother. Our vision for Project LEDO is to embody the heart of La Edad de Oro and share that same passion we have to empower the youth of Cuba and Latin American countries to be innovators and make a difference.
