Education Management - Chicago, Illinois, United States
Project P.R.O.M.I.S.E. is a non profit organization affiliated with TRIO and are dedicated to assisting low-income, potential first-generation minority college students to make a smooth transition into secondary and post-secondary education. The acronym P.R.O.M.I.S.E stands for Prepared, Resilient Optimistic, Motivated, Inspired, Successful, and Educated. We are an educational talent search program and our mission statement is "making higher education accessible for all students". We offer a multitude of free services including mentoring, tutoring, academic and personal counseling, FAFSA and college admission application assistance, workshops and enrichment activities, college campus tours, ACT/SAT testing preparation, job interview and dining etiquette training, and other services. We each manage between 300 and 400 students from 6 selected schools in underprivileged areas and our roles as educational advisors and academic coordinators is to ensure that they are on track for graduation, counsel them through the college selection process, help fill out financial aid forms, and make sure they pass any entrance exams needed to continue to secondary and post-secondary education. We keep track of these students over a period of 5 years to ensure they reached their targeted goals or need financial and academic assistance continuing their education. To be eligible to enroll in Project P.R.O.M.I.S.E., students must be anywhere between 6th and 12th grade. Our program targets primarily minority students in low-income areas; however, we do accept students from other areas in Chicago as well. Also, the student does not have to be at the targeted school if they wish to enroll in our program but must be within the CPS system.
