He was a founding member of the Australia Space Research Institute (ASRI) and later the Academic Space Launch Initiative (ASLI), both STEM advancement programs that fostered the development of space industry ready skills in undergraduate engineers across Australia. In the professional space Jamie was the founding engineer and principle propulsion technologist for Gilmour Space Technologies, a space launch start-up where in a 3 year period he took the company from concept to hardware implementation. Developing new techniques for hybrid fuel production, testing several unique rocket motors and leading Australia's first rocket launch by an Australian rocket company in 2016. He was also instrumental in overseeing the design and development of a scalable hybrid rocket motor technology based Hydrogen Peroxide oxidiser and high regression rate fuel, that lead to the successful demonstration firing of a 550 mm diameter 70kN thrust motor. Jamie is also the inventor of a breakthrough high regression rate hybrid fuel, which is a key enabling technology for low cost access to space propulsion systems.
