Proteus Instruments is a trading division of RS Hydro and was formed on the back of an innovation project to develop a real-time BOD sensor. A 27-month long Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) No: between the University of Birmingham and RS Hydro was started in November 2013 and completed in February 2016. By late 2017 RS Hydro had fully engineered a low cost, self-cleaning monitoring platform that could measure BOD and COD in real-time. Conventional sampling regimes used by environmental regulators and researchers (typically once per week or per day) often fail to represent the true water quality dynamics especially where there is diurnal periodicity. Furthermore, getting results using BOD5 laboratory analysis can take up to 10 days which means that until now BOD could not be used as a real-time parameter but only as post-event evidence. Since that point Proteus sensors have been sold to water companies and organisations to monitor downstream processes at Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTWs) and to measure environmental and industrial pollution events. This Proteus has been short-listed to the finals of various national and international innovation competitions worldwide proving itself to be a game-changer and very much a new and disruptive technology.Proteus Instruments are based in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, UK and operate worldwide through a distributor network. We are a very open-minded and enjoy working in partnership with our clients and partners. We recognise that this technology is so new that many may disbelieve it at first. We totally understand and having been through the process with many clients we know how to reassure you. It is not within our interests to convince you of something that does not work. It works and has international scientific backing - Simply ask us for details.
