The purpose of PGNA is to develop and advance the specialty ofpsychogeriatric nursing by:-- encouraging and providing an avenue for personal and professionalcommunication between psychogeriatric nurses;- encouraging the exchange and dissemination of knowledge, skills,and ideas in the field of psychogeriatric nursing;- providing opportunities for continuing education by means ofwritten articles, lectures and seminars;- developing psychogeriatric nursing as a discipline;- fostering the highest standards of psychogeriatric nursing care;- encouraging clinical research in the field of psychogeriatrics;- promoting interrelationships between other branches of the nursingprofession;- promoting links between other professional bodies at regional,state, national and international levels;- providing a united and authoritative voice for the profession ofnursing on all matters pertaining to the clinical specialty ofpsychogeriatric nursing;- affiliating with other nursing, medical, and other professional groups.
