Construction - Omagh, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
History In 1972 Patrick McWilliams started out as a plant hire operator, working on local housing sites. In the mid-80′s he subcontracted site clearance, groundworks and minor road improvement schemes for main contractors in Northern Ireland. In 1995 he successfully completed an earthworks, drainage, kerbing and services subcontract for the 2.5km of new single-carriageway "A5 Omagh Through-Pass", scheme. The successful completion of this project provided the foundation to undertake more substantial civil engineering works. In 2000 P.T. McWilliams undertook their first construction project in the Republic of Ireland, the N3 Drummanbane Realignment for Cavan County Council. During this project, a rock quarry was acquired which continues to operate, producing high quality aggregates for the local market. The business was incorporated in 2003, trading as PT McWilliams Limited and managed by the next generation of the McWilliams family. Also in 2003 an accredited integrated ISO management system was implemented. (9001 Quality Management, 14001 Environmental Management, and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health & Safety). Prior to the global economic crisis 2008-2012, the company primarily focused on developing its reputation as a principal main contractor in Highways, Waste infrastructure, Marine and commercial development, while concurrently undertaking significant earthworks subcontracts for Tier 1 contractors, reaching a turnover of £40m with 250 employees. The impact of the downturn has necessitated the Company to refocus on its core strength of providing a specialist earthworks subcontract service to Tier 1 Contractors throughout all construction sectors in UK and Ireland.
