Events Services - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
In 2010, Public Dreams celebrated 25 years of strengthening community through creativity. Most known for large-scale celebrations 'Illuminares' and 'Parade of Lost Souls', Public Dreams was originally founded around a kitchen table, and incorporated as a non-profit society and registered charity in 1985. Founders Dolly Hopkins, Paula Jardine, and Lesley Fiddler shared a vision of building the spirit of community in Vancouver through cultural celebration. By enabling, supporting, and disseminating the work of emerging and established interdisciplinary artists, Public Dreams creates opportunities for people to experience the joy of artistic expression, to see themselves as creative beings, to turn passive consumption into active participation, and to experience belonging as an individual within a community. Vancouver Magazine has called our events "iconic to the cultural landscape of Vancouver". For the next 25 years, we want to build on our success by extending our work into new neighbouhoods, and fostering innovation in community art and performance. Our most important participants are the next generation of creative thinkers – those now growing up in a melting pot of technology, diverse ethnicities, and burgeoning density. In them, their parents, and their neighbours, we wish to inspire imagination, stewardship, and the breadth of knowledge that comes through immersive creative experiences.
