The QAL Advanced Cardiovascular Network was established in 2008 by Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub as a ‘social profit' entity with 4 principal goals in mind:a) To contribute to global science and knowledge in the field of cardiovascular medicine and surgery, with the aim of reducing the burden of disease and improving patient outcomes.b) To invest in the development of a generation of world class researchers, surgeons, clinicians and support personnel in the countries in which it operates.c) To support the provision of high quality clinical and surgical services to cardio-vascular patients in the countries in which it operates (outside UK).d) To contribute to the development of biotechnology in the cardiovascular field, particularly in the Middle East.QAL's strength rests not only on the professional expertise and commitment of its own staff. As a network, it is able to bring together a wide ranging group of individuals and established institutions from around the world to contribute to its mission. QAL is headquartered in UK, but operates predominantly in high incidence countries of the Middle East and Africa. Flagship programmes are presently under development in both Egypt and Qatar.
