My name is Kutay Turay and I am a teaching artist specializing in engaging, creative, meaningful West African drumming, storytelling, music, dance and traditional African arts. Students will learn about African drumming, enhance reading skills through storytelling and drama, build coordination through dance, but most importantly, change occurs on a personal level as participants/young people develop critical thinking skills, self-confidence, discipline, academic success, interpersonal skills, and creativity by being part of a collaborative performance.I am skilled at teaching my crafts, in instructional settings, including K-12 classrooms, professional development workshops for educators, and educational outreach for organizations. My programs are designed to be curriculum based and grade level appropriate. Students are part of the creative process, working alongside me to imagine, design, think, create, and execute performances that are works of art.My African percussion, storytelling, singing, and dance programs include in-depth instructional time and opportunities for participants to have hands-on involvement in the creative process.Specific program descriptions for performances, workshops, and lectures are available. Please contact me to make arrangements.
