The Biological Society is the oldest medical society at The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Our society works to host and organize academic competitions for students at different stages of their education. Each one of our events promote discussion on critical current matters in healthcare. Some of our most well-known events include the Harold Browne Anatomy Quiz, the Senior Case Competition, and our Inaugural Address. Our society gives our members incredible opportunities to network with faculty members as well as other students at RCSI. Revived in 1931 by Professor J.D.H Widdess, "The Biological Society (BioSoc) is the official student society of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and claims to be the oldest student medical society in the world." Currently, in its 89th Session, the society president is Professor Rory McConn Walsh. Every event we host provides an opportunity for a team (or student) to win a medal or certificate. Participating at our events is a great way to apply your knowledge from lectures and rotations as well as being about to meet students from all different years across RCSI. The society primarily organizes academic competitions for Medical students at every level to participate. Specialist physicians/surgeons and faculty members judge the competitions with the winners receiving medals of distinction such as the Denis Gill Medal for Paediatrics and Alan Brown Medal for ObGyn. The names of these students are also encrypted on the wooden plaques in the college, left to be displayed for years to follow.Thank you for joining BioSoc, have a good year ahead and we look forward to your participation.
