Readaroma was started with a defiant spirit and a lofty aim: To offer large books converted into small videos, without losing any of the details that make reading a book enjoyable. Every idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: The propagation of new ideas is limited to those who can read books. We were avid readers in our first year in grad school when we realized that a lot of our peers could not read books either because they had too little time, could not understand the language or were unaccustomed to reading as an activity. They were however, interested in the messages these books had to convey, in terms of broadening perspectives and telling stories. We discovered that too often did the historical or political narratives the book presented get lost in the story. We realized that these ideas often impact the way we take decisions, whether it be voting for someone, believing in certain economic systems or even how to live certain parts of our lives. But frequently these ideas remain limited to a privileged few who can devote enough time to get to know the hidden meaning in books. We wanted a change. We believe that our ability to get to know new stories should not be limited only to the ones who can surmount language and time barriers. We wanted to have everyone to have access to the unique insights that books provide, and realized that videos are a universally accessible mechanism to convey these. We realized that we could not expect each book to be converted to a movie by a studio house, both due to the vast number of books written and the commercial infeasibility of transforming good but non-popular or books written in foreign languages into movies. Readaroma also works with non-profits to ensure that a part of our revenue goes towards educating those who cannot read. There's nothing complicated about it. Good videos, good decisions, better societies.
