Readit2 was created following my personal journey as a parent and my professional journey as a teacher, Advisory teacher for English, Early Years Adviser and further academic study. I was curious, why did some children become literacy orientated pre-schoolers and others struggle to talk, develop a wide vocabulary and understand the joys of books and reading? There have been substantial changes in society in recent years - 1:4 children are now entering school without the necessary communication and language skills (Save the Children), 1:2 of those considered ‘at disadvantage'. I have researched what children require and put together an effective early literacy training programme which develops practitioners knowledge of both early attachment and effective early literacy teaching. At the core of Readit2 is an emphasis on the development of an emotional attachment to reading, learning and the trained practitioner.Readit2 trains adults to inspire children to love to read and learn through a daily one-to-one reading experience. It is this daily one-to-one reading experience between a child and expert practitioner that has been proven to make the difference, particularly for those children considered at disadvantage. The Readit2 training takes place over 3 days, two in close succession and one 6-8 months later (Day 3 delegates share videos of them reading with children)Readit2 has one clear aim: to help children who are identified as needing early intervention at ages two to five to enter school as reading equals, and develop an emotional bond with a trusted adult – the book becomes the vehicle through which conversations that matter occur.Where the greatest successes have been had, the Head and all the Senior Leadership Team in a school/setting have supported the intervention to ensure the ‘daily' one-to-one reading session occurs every day whatever, enabling children with insecure or disorganized attachment to learn to trust.
