Lisbon, Portugal, 1975, a time that ran slower, a mind that finally wondered freely, a life that seemed more lived despite its harshness, and a thirteen-year-old boy from a small rural village in Loures that became an upholsterer apprentice at the Jaurés Workshop, an upholstery workshop in Lisbon.During the following decades, the apprentice gradually became a master upholsterer, piece by piece, step by step, gathering experience and knowledge that is only available to a few people in the world, contributing to bring the Portuguese centenary furniture tradition to the present day. Upholstery is now a rare craft, in a world where knowledge and experience are no longer so commonly passed from a person to another as if passing a testimony, as if passing a heritage. Fortunately, there are some exceptions to the rule.Forty-six years have passed since the first day the apprentice grabbed a broom to wipe the floor of Jaurés Workshop. Paulo Simões, the then thirteen years old boy, is now the father and master teacher of REAL's founder, Nuno Simões. Paulo is the brand's pillar that guarantees every piece is made with respect for the old traditions, traditions which craftsmanship make each piece unique, which rhythm allows each piece to be carefully thought in every detail, traditions which commitment with excellence is imperishable at both present and future. Every REAL's piece goes through Paulo.REAL was created in September 2021 to exalt all these traditions in a new world, opened to reinterpret them towards imbuing each piece with a soul, with a story of its own, making it capable of provoking emotions and nurturing feelings with whom is around.This is the power of a piece thought and designed to express a message or group of key emotions.
