RebelYard Theatre Collective, or the "Yard" was founded by former Drexel students Corey A. Stephens, Rashni Stanford-Smith, Nadia Harry, and Kendra Dobson as a way of bringing experimental and thought provoking theatre to Philadelphia in a manner that had not previously been seen before. The Yard strives to promote unpretentious and self-reliant theatre that throws off "convention" and refuses to concede to commercialism. Rebelling against the established theatre creates an atmosphere where pure interaction between spectator and performance grows un-tampered, thus fostering a rebellion in theatre that the audience feels long after they leave their seats! These Rebels also wanted to creat a theatre organization that reached beyond the traditional demographic, to extend its reach to all corners of Philadelphia's many communities, and its people -- people who may not have ever been exposed to theatre in their lives, but who are hungry nonetheless to be represented by and because of the stage. REBELYARD'S MISSION IS TO: Enrich the lives of its audiences by inspiring greater cultural and social awareness through its creation of thought provoking, experimental theatre. Theatre that becomes more accessible as it rebels against the conventional and commercial constraints that may otherwise leave an audience un-represented or hinder its pure theatrical experience.
