Red Gold of Afghanistan is a revenue-driven social enterprise that aims to empower Afghan women through the cultivation, processing and marketing of saffron.Afghan women suffer from some of the highest rates of domestic abuse and the lowest literacy rates in the entire world. We believe that one of the root causes of this inequality is their lack of financial independence.We believe that by training Afghan women to start and grow their saffron businesses, we can purchase some of the highest quality saffron in the world. We then take our profits and reinvesting in these female farmers, providing more training, equipment, or even land so more women can become financially independent.To date, we have raised over $10,000. We have used this money to work with the Ministry of Agriculture in Afghanistan to provide saffron harvesting and farming training to our female partners. We have purchased our first kilograms of saffron from these women to begin selling in North America!
