Red Kayak Institute (RKI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2013 by author and kayaker Mary Anne Smrz. RKI introduces people facing challenges to the healing benefits of kayaking. Just add water. Mary Anne has processed deep grief, loss, and unexpected change in her life by kayaking and being in the restorative sanctuary of the natural world. As founder of RKI, she shares her insights with others through retreats encouraging participants to pause from the stress in their lives.RKI partners with organizations who serve people who would benefit from the healing benefits of quiet time on the water and who face challenges such as illness, losing a loved one, and overcoming addiction. Retreats are half-day or full day formats and are inspirational in nature. No kayak experience is necessary and basic kayak instruction is provided at each retreat, with experienced and licensed staff on the water at all times.RKI also provides team-building and corporate retreats for small groups.
