The Reel Serious After School Program affords young people, ages 12-18, a safe place to explore the rich history and culture of New Bedford through the creation of honest, inspirational, transformative (H.I.T.) documentary films. Our vision is for all disadvantaged teens in New Bedford to have the opportunity to find their voice while producing an original documentary film that provokes social change.Reel Serious is dedicated to working with at-risk youth and serving disadvantaged groups such as minorities, the disabled and immigrants by providing consciously connective learning programs. In addition, we hold multiple screenings in and around the New Bedford area to showcase the films made by our participants. These screenings allow our films to reach a broader audience which affects hundreds, if not thousands, of people - young and old - who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend a film screening or participate in similar programs. Our documentaries are easy to relate to for many diverse demographics across the board. Our films create a sense of pride in the community, preserve history and provide commentary on real issues that impact the general population. The increase in our filmsâ visibility will assist in creating dialogue which will impact social change and behaviors, while promoting tolerance and community service. Each program will inspire young people to think creatively and critically about the world around them, while getting involved in their community.Contact us for further information on how to become a partner. We look forward to working with you.
