Food Production - Barbacena, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Fazenda Jacob aims to promote regeneration practices in the Atlantic Rainforest region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. We are an agroforestry model farm with a plan to become a hub for education and transformation for the local farming community through regenerative agriculture techniques, engagement opportunities, nutrition education, and healthy food systems. With a total area of 190 hectares, the farm maintains more than 30% of its land as protected native forest. Historically, the Atlantic Rainforest made up over a 1.2 million square kilometers (about a quarter of the size of the Amazon), but after centuries of deforestation for timber, sugar cane, coffee, cattle ranching, and urban sprawl the Atlantic rainforest has declined by well over 90 percent: today less than 100,000 square kilometers of the forest remains. Brazil not only has a high potential impact value, but also a dire need for protection and restoration, which is why it is the perfect location to serve as the foundational example for the regeneration process. The farm has the vision to help teach other farms and communities throughout the world to begin regenerative agriculture, thus having a global impact across many systems of oppression affecting the majority of people in this world, the poor, as well as climate change. Fazenda Jacob is open to national and international collaboration. We seek to serve as a pilot farm to support initiatives aiming at developing, testing, and deploying high-impact solutions to sustainability challenges in tropical agriculture. Interested in living and working on a regenerative tropical farm? Interested in testing a new product? Don't hesitate to reach out. We promise the food you eat here will be something to be remembered.
