Reignite Hope is a tuition-free welding and metal fabrication school specifically targeting the most underserved members of our communities. Our story began back in 2010 on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles where we, then called "wheels of Hope" partnered with the Fred Jordan Mission and began teaching welding skill to men and women, many of whom had been homeless, gang members, and formerly in prison. To date, Reignite Hope has graduated hundreds of men and women from our certified welders course. We are proud of the fact that 100% of our students have passed their certifiction exams administered by American Welding Society, meaning we have a "Credentialed Attainment Rate" of 100%. The majority of our students are currently unemployed, and those who are employed fall into the category of the underemployed. Most of our students have made bad decisions but have found their way to us because of their demonstrated desire to change their lives for the better. Most are on public assitance in one form or another, and have been for some time. It is our goal to get them off public assistance for good, and to restore the sense of diginity that comes from earning a good living and being a productive member of society. Each semester we have students who are currently homeless, literally sleeping on the streets at night and attending our classes during the day, as well as students who are currently on parole or probation. We are accustomed to visits fromparole/probation officers and case workers. One of the best aspects of our program is the sense of fellowship. Bonds and friendships between students are being formed that are stronger than the metals that they are joining. Because our program can be challenging, the students connect as they are in it together. We have had classes with more than one member of the same family in the program together - fathers and sons, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, mothers with sons. We are family.
