The Institute is the academic research and professional training wing of Releasing Potential, an educational charity and Independent School for young people aged 11-18 with Special Educational Needs. Our work covers three main areas:- Level 2, 3 & 4 professional training in The Management of Challenging Behaviour (NCFE accredited). - Research projects and data analysis in Alternative Education; Social Pedagogy; Outdoor Education; Special Educational Needs (in particular, Autism, ADHD, PDA and challenging behaviour).- Events, conferences, workshops and public speaking in our areas of research specialism.We are currently involved in a large-scale data collection project (in association with Huis Technologies) aimed at tracking the impact of an alternative curriculum on the most marginalised children in Hampshire and West Sussex. With a particular focus on NEET figures in these Local Authority areas, the project, which has already collected over 9 million data points, will be assessed in Summer 2019 and the findings will soon be available.We are also undertaking a joint research project with the University of Portsmouth, which investigates the efficacy and impact of our approach to working with vulnerable and challenging young people. The results will be published in spring 2019, and disseminated through journal articles and an academic conference.Our research team is headed up by Dr Catherine Brennan and Dr Alex Gray.
