Reps for Responders (RFR) is a 501c3 established in 2020. RFR's mission is to support the mental health and wellbeing of all first responders, active or retired (Police, EMS, EMT, Military, and Corrections). To do this, RFR focuses on spreading awareness about mental health in the first responder community and advocates for first responders to reach out for help. By nature of the job, first responders see and experience more traumatic events than their civilian counterparts. Pair that with everyday stressors, and first responders are at greater risk for anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance abuse and suicide.Through fitness, support groups, and peer recovery coaching, first responders have a safe haven when they join the Reps for Responders community. Here, they can share their stories, their struggles and their wins whether it be about the job, or life in general. As a result of COVID-19, our gym was closed down. Now, we partner with already existing fitness facilities locally and nationwide to sponsor the memberships of first responders, host community events and be an additional support system for first responders and their families.RFR was founded by an active NYPD Officer who experienced the struggle of reaching out for help during his time of need due to the culture surrounding mental health and the job. RFR was born not out the desire, but out of the need to support and advocate for the mental health and wellness of the first responder community so that they can better serve themselves and the neighborhoods they have committed to serving and protecting.Find us at RepsforResponders.org and on instagram @reps_for_responders.Take a listen to the podcast "Inside the Labyrinth" featuring top athletes & first responders discussing mental health, nutrition, physical activity and more.
