Turn waste paper into trees.Over 10 billion paper receipts are printed in the UK every year, at a huge cost to retailers, customers and the environment. Each paper receipt costs 0.5p to the retailer, but the cost is far greater to the environment.A single tree equates to around 10000 receipts, each of which requires further electricity, heat, oil and water to produce. Receipts cannot be recycled or composted as they contain Bisphenol-A, a chemical that impacts the nervous and endocrine systems, can be transferred through the skin and has been linked to diabetes, breast cancer and growth defects in young children.Like shopping bags, receipts represent one of the largest sources of avoidable waste in retail. Small decisions about even smaller pieces of paper can go a long way. Support Reseed in:1. Reducing receipt printing2. Recycling existing receipt paper safely3. Replacing paper with paperless technology4. Remediating the problem by planting trees and supporting carbon sequestering projectsReseed was awarded the Mayor of London's Low Carbon Entrepreneur award by Boris Johnson in June 2013 and supported by the Clinton Global Initiative and Siemens.
