Civil Engineering - Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India
Resilient Himalayan Homes is an umbrella project run at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, which focusses projects that try to make a change for local people in the Indian Himalayas. The project focussed on traditional vernacular architecture. The main problems in the conservation of the traditional architecture are established and it is attempted to tackle these problems in an integral manner. We believe that the solution to most of the problems is already with the local community and all that needs to be done is to - together with the local community - revive the century-old knowledge, re-interpreting it where possible and facilitate sustainable development.
