Restore – Burn and Wound Research was founded in 1991 by Anthony Roberts when working as Consultant in Plastic and Hand Surgery at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Director of the Burns Unit. It is a charitable trust for research on burns and reconstructive surgery. Advised by a Scientific Advisory Committee consisting of some of the most highly regarded clinicians and scientists in Britain, Restore awards research Fellowships to young surgeons to undertake unique research into burns, wounds and scarringEach year over 250,000 people in the UK suffer a burn.The physical and psychological effects of scarring can be devastating, particularly for children who make up a majority of burn victims .There is currently no way of preventing scarring or successfully treating burns through medication..
