Restore Humanity Details

Our principal program is the James Christopher Opot (JCO) Children's Home, which is a Charitable Children's Institution registered with the Kenyan government. The operation of the JCO is informed by a deep concern for the difference between mere survival and the heights of human flourishing. Consequently, we purposefully maintain an optimal ratio of caregivers-to-kids. This allows us to foster a familial environment in which to provide exceptional holistic care for each and every child. We strive to run the JCO efficiently as an institution but its primary purpose is to feel like a welcoming, safe, and loving home to the children who live there. We do not allow adoption so once children come to the JCO they will remain in our care until the completion of their high school education. Upon graduation, some will enter our JCO Graduate Program, in which applicable skills are honed in a vocational or technical school. Others, who demonstrate high levels of academic interest and aptitude will enter our Restore Humanity (RH) Scholars Program, which pays for a four-year college degree. We also do a lot of Community Outreach. Our Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program prepares 3-6 year-olds for primary school with classes taught in both English and Luo—while simultaneously providing high-quality childcare. Our Maxi-Pad Program provides year-round AFRIpads for more than 1000 girls and young women in and around the village of Sirembe. Our Secondary School Scholarship Program covers the school fees associated with attending public high school in Kenya for children (outside of the JCO) who otherwise would not be able to complete their high school education. We collaborate with village leadership on infrastructure projects whenever feasible. We helped the sole clinic in Sirembe build a maternity ward and have assisted with the construction of classrooms at Sirembe Primary School and multiple dormitories and other renovation projects at Sirembe Secondary School.
