[RE]vive is a refugee education initiative co-founded in 2017 by Ayah Kutmah & Brooke Bacigal. Our mission is to bring educational and vocational resources to refugee students to help them apply to higher education opportunities, scholarships and jobs. We started as a grant funded initiative to create empowerment-based professional development curriculum that was specific to individual refugee communities, the first was Istanbul, Turkey and in August of 2018 our team, in partnership with the Karam Foundation, traveled there and implemented our first set of 2 week long educational workshops. Sustainability is at the forefront of our initiative so, while there, we also conducted truncated workshops for teachers and volunteers in the area to perpetuate the curriculum long after our team left, we have developed an online platform with resources to engage our past students, and are now looking toward expansion. This year we hope to focus on refugee populations within the United States to provide educational and vocational resources to them tailored to their communities.
