Architecture & Planning - Seattle, Washington, United States
Richaven Architecture & Preservation exists at the intersection of historic preservation, sustainable design, and project and construction management. Through the broad lens of future-proofing buildings and with a focus on technical design and preservation issues, we look at the existing and historic built environment from the point of view of maximizing the value of the building, respecting it's heritage, and minimizing life cycle impacts through appropriate adaptive reuse, rehabilitation, restoration, and renovation. A building does not have to be historically significant to be valued by their community. Designation of a landmark does not mean that a building is frozen in time. We believe that the Secretary's Standards give a framework through which to view work on a building which is respectful of it's historic nature. At RAP, we believe that sustainable design is more than just returning to basics of good design. Sustainable design is about improving the impact that our built environment has on our planet. We believe that sustainable design and existing buildings go hand in hand for several reasons. Material conservation, reduction in carbon impacts, generation of jobs and retention of our cultural history are just a few.Construction Management requires a fair and even handed approach toward all parties involved. Principal Brian Rich, has over 25 years of experience in working with Owners, Contractors and other stakeholders to deliver projects on time and on budget with a minimal change order percentage. This experience includes the administration of negotiated bid, design-bid-build, GCCM, and Progressive Design-Build projects on projects of all types.
