Road & Travel Magazine was founded in 1989 as a print magazine. At that time, it specialized in new car road test reviews. Travel was added when RTM became one of the first national print magazines to transition to an online publication in 2000, launching with 500 pages. Since environmental and climate change affect travel and auto issues, a new section was created on Climate Change in 2008. Personal safety, whether traveling by land, air, or sea has been one of RTM's hallmark topics since its launch in 1989 as women and families are a huge swath of RTMs audience. As RVing gained more popularity in recent years, a new RV section was added in 2016. In all, RTM has 36 departments which are listed in the navigation bar on all 6500 pages.
