Mission:To help our more than 50,000 clients in rural Northern India build their own path out of poverty.DescriptionRojiroti gives its clients in the poorest regions of Central and Northeastern Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, India, the power to make their own decisions about their lives and finances, without mandating how they spend their money. By participating in Rojiroti's self-help groups, our members help themselves and each other. Rojiroti isn't a traditional microfinancer. By keeping our staff small, by encouraging group savings and lending, and by allowing for broad loan purposes, we reach people who are more poor and more in need than other microfinancers.Rojiroti is a unique approach to self-help groups that encourages clients to save and borrow money from a group fund, without limiting loans to business purposes. New clients tend to take small loans for food, medicine, and to pay down high-interest debts. As they gain financial stability, and as the group demonstrates an ability to save and borrow from their group fund, members take larger institutional loans from Rojiroti to improve their homes and farming practices.Rojiroti provides training, insurance, microfinance and agricultural extension activities to 50,000 group members and their families in more than 5,000 groups across three states in Northern India. We operate through a network of coordinators and village leaders who facilitate formation of self-help groups in impoverished rural areas, with a small core team led by the Centre for Promoting Sustainable Livelihood at our headquarters in Patna, Bihar. Rojiroti is implemented by the Centre for Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods (CPSL).
