The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is responsible for training, educating and representing psychiatrists in Australia and New Zealand. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who undertake additional training to quality as specialists in the treatment of mental illness. Founded in 1946, the RANZCP has more than 7000 members, including 4980 fully qualified psychiatrists and over 1800 trainees. The RANZCP has branches in every Australian state and territory and a head office in Melbourne, as well as a national office in Wellington, New Zealand. The RANZCP has a new President elected every two years. The President first serves as President-Elect for two years before taking up their position. The current RANZCP President is Associate Professor John Allan. Our vision is to improve the mental health of communities through high quality psychiatric care, education, leadership and advocacy.
