As a health and human services organization, our mission is to work with individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless to address their needs for physical, emotional and social well-being. We focus on medical and non-medical social determinants of health to include housing, transportation, food security, interpersonal safety and economic mobility. At intake, 100% of our clients are unemployed, underemployed and/or earning incomes that fall below federal poverty guidelines. Four in five report untreated physical and mental health issues. Since its inception in 2012, RunningWorks has served more than 5000 men, women and children in Mecklenburg, Rowan and York counties. Since 2018, we have helped 50 secure housing in Charlotte. The "R" in Running stands for "relationships, which is what makes us unique—we stay small intentionally so our clients (team members) are able to build a firm foundation with us on which to maintain their housing, mental health and employment. Our vision is to stop the destructive cycle of homelessness before it starts by reaching the most vulnerable and socially excluded with values accrued through running - skills they can use to further their lives. Based in Charlotte, NC, RunningWorks has six affiliate programs that aid homeless men and women, abused and neglected children, young adults cycling out of foster care, and disadvantaged women battling addiction. Affiliate programs are located in Charlotte, Salisbury, NC and Rock Hill, SC.
