The Rusyn Literature Society is a publishing house and literary society founded in October 2020 by Starik Pollock. Just a month later in November, Tomash Kalinich, a trained linguist and Transcarpathian native was also officially brought on to the team as the lead Rusyn language editor.Our mission at RLS is to foster the development of intellectual sovereignty, high culture, and literature within the Rusyn homeland and diaspora in North America. The society aims to do this through two main avenues: incentivizing artistic creation by making it more economically viable, and producing an environment where debate and a free exchange of ideas can take place without outside influences.Like many other minority ethnic groups, there have been historically few platforms for individuals to write stories in their native language or voice their opinion on issues within their community and receive any amount of compensation. We aim to change this by creating a payment structure so that every individual who is published on our site in both fiction and non-fiction is paid standard market rates for their work. Along with this, we look to prove that being a privately funded company focused solely on Rusyn issues is economically viable in today's world.
