A Charity Event to help raise money for continued research regarding a very rare and specific type of Brain Stem Cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. DIPG is a tumour located in the middle of the brain stem and therefore cannot be surgically removed. The median overall survival of children diagnosed with DIPG is approximately 9 months. DIPG deprives children of their motor functions resulting in partial paralysis, loss of voice, sight and eventually an inability to eat and breathe. It is both heart wrenching and painful as the children are fully aware of their decline until their final day. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the DIPG fund for continued research at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.Ryan Chisim was born May 11, 1999. He was an incredible child with a zest for life and had tremendous courage. Ryan enjoyed playing sports, did well in school and was popular amongst his peers. He was a child that others were instantly drawn to with his warm, calm and fun-loving demeanour. In late February 2011 Ryan was diagnosed with a brain stem tumour called DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). DIPG is a tumour located in the middle of the brain stem, and because of its location, cannot be surgically removed. Ryan lost his battle with cancer on January 20th 2012. He was 12 years old. After an 11 month battle with this disease, Ryan leaves behind his legacy of never giving up and continuing the fight against this aggressive form of cancer. It is in his memory that we invite you to take part in the Ryan Chisim Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds to help find a cure for DIPG.
